Bengaluru. Commencing the official countdown to the world premier 10K, the TCS World 10K, promoters Procam International today announced triple Olympic Gold Medalist Stephanie Rice as the International event ambassador for the celebratory tenth edition of the run. The promoters also announced that over 23,000 participants were registered across the six race categories on race day, scheduled for the 21st of May 2017 including more than 13,000 runners in the Open 10K, a 12% increase in registered runners from the previous edition.
The USD 200,000 event will see in action TCS World 10K Double defending champion & Yangzhou Half Marathon Winner, Ethiopian, Mosinet Geremew, the 10K & 15K World Record holder, Kenya’s, Leonard Komon amongst the men. While the elite women sign-up’s include 2017 World Cross Country Champion, Kenyan Irene Cheptai, Gladys Chesir the fastest women in 10K, clocking 30:41 at the Berlin 10K and Ethiopia’s Wude Yimer. With participants spread across five categories, the most significant jump in the number of runners has been in the Open 10K run, with more than 13,000 runners registered for the first run of the day, a 12% increase from the previous year. This year will also see the introduction of the Police Cup, a special category; a category specially introduced within the event in appreciation of all the efforts of the XXX police across the years. The category will see 57 three-member teams competing for the prestigious title and prize money of Rs. XXX,
To mark a decade in the city, this year, the promoters have added a number of elements to the running experience for this edition of the TCS World 10K, by including in-stadia music performances, activities in and around the stadium and a live screening of the runs. Procam International also announced a revised race day schedule with the marquee run on race day, the Elite Male World 10K, to be flagged off at 8:50 am to encourage the city of Bengaluru to step out of their homes & cheer on the runners and witness one of the fastest race in the city.. The revised race schedule commences with the Open 10K at 5:30 am, followed by the popular Majja Run to be flagged off at 6:45 am to allow for amatuer participants to complete their runs before the summer heat sets in and to encourage most participants to return to the stadium and witness the finale of the clash between the track & field athletes and road race specialists participating in the world’s most prestigious 10K, the TCS World 10K.
Kicking off the countdown to the run, Puneeth Rajkumar, the ‘Face of the Event’ for the run was excited to encourage Bengaluru to run yet again, “With each passing year, the TCS World 10K has been instrumental in developing and positioning Bangalore as an active running hub in the country and a city that is committed to its own fitness and health. The enthusiasm with which the people take on this challenge is a testament to the spirit of the city. This year we complete a decade in the city and I am confident that it would be one of the most memorable race days of the last years.”

Considered one of Australia’s Golden Girls, Stephanie knew she wanted to be an Olympic swimmer when she was 4 years old. To this day, the retired athlete hasn’t stopped dreaming big and working hard to make her dreams a reality. The talented swimmer first caught Australia’s attention in 2006, when at 17 years of age, she won gold in the 200 and 400 Individual Medley at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games. She then went on to win multiple medals at international levels, before her unforgettable three Gold Medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics swimming an incredible three races in world record breaking times.

After announcing her retirement, in April 2014, Stephanie went on to challenge herself on a different level, participating in Channel Nine’s Celebrity Apprentice Australia in 2013, becoming the youngest winner of the contest, worldwide. Today Stephanie is an entrepreneur who has converted her passion to inspire and support her fans from Australia and beyond to enjoy life and get active and healthy. Her business ventures, under the RACERiCE banner include a swimwear line for children and supercharged bars for children.

Bisleri joins the sponsor band
As hydration partners to the event, Bisleri will be responsible for all water requirements of the runners and athletes participating in the 10K. Bisleri will set up 6 water stations across the 10km course to ensure that all the runners and athletes are well hydrated. In addition making water available at regular intervals, Bisleri will also have a cooling corridor on the course, that will allow runners cool down and recharge themselves for the rest of their race.

Nestlé presents Mirchi Get Active Expo

The Koramangla Indoor Stadium has been announced as the venue for the Mirchi Get Fit Expo between the 17th and 20th of May (both days inclusive) , and will be the one-stop destination for all registered participants. Registered runners are encouraged to visit the expo to collect their running bibs, participate in exclusive runners meet, and avail exciting offers by leading sports brands.
Procam International continues their commitment to sustainable Waste Management
An initiative that started in the 2016 edition of the race, Procam International strives to make the TCS World 10K, a 100% enviro-friendly event. As with last year, measures will be taken to use as many recyclable and re-usable products; waste-manage the waste generated during the Event in the most efficient and eco-friendly manner and partnering with agencies for recycling of waste generated.

Last years activities in waste management included the transportation of 2,625 KG of Food Waste and 450 KG of Aracnaut Plates to the Forest Development Kadugodi Nursery to be used as compost. 2,902 KG of Dry waste was distributed to waste pickers as identified by the BBMP to be recycled and excess hot refreshments were distributed to 5000+ individuals in the slums of LR Nagar, Rajendra Nagar, EWS Quarters, DJ Halli and Ambedkar Nagar, in conjunction with Swamibhaan and India Cares Foundation. The flex material used during the Event was transported to the CSO Swabhimaan at their workstation in Ejipura which they converted to slum shelters and covers for crops for farmers in Kanakpura
