ARJUN MAINI OVERCOMES MECHANICAL FAILURES TO SCORE A POINT IN HUNGARY
THE JENZER DRIVER TAKES ONE POINT IN RACE 2 AT BUDAPEST AND IS NOW 8TH IN THE DRIVER’S CHAMPIONSHIP
Budapest: Arjun Maini finished off his weekend at Budapest on a positive note with a 8th place points finish in Race 2. Despite showing good pace through the Practice and Qualifying sessions, mechanical issues resulted in Arjun not being able to complete the Qualifying as well as Race 1 on Saturday. Starting 18th in Race 2, Arjun made up 10 positions to finish P8 securing one point in Round 4 of the GP3 Series.
Arjun Maini started his race weekend at Budapest finishing 5th in the free practice session on Thursday. The JK Tyre and TVS supported driver eventually qualified 13th due to mechanical issues with the car, after being in the top 5 through most of the session. He had to pull out of Race 1, for the same issues on Lap 1 itself. Saturday although promising, ended on a disappointing note.
Race 2 began with Arjun 18th on the grid, he started well and gained a couple of places in the first 2 laps of the race. By the end of the 8th lap, Arjun had moved into P13 with some very good overtaking. He continued this great run, and was in P11 with about 4 laps to go. Maini finished the race in P9, and after a penalty to Siebert, Arjun was promoted into P8.
About the race weekend at Budapest, Arjun Maini said, “I have a lot of fond memories of Budapest last year, where I had got my first GP3 podium. The weekend began really well, and looked like we had the pace to do very well this weekend. It was very unfortunate with the mechanical issues, but I did end up finishing the weekend off well with the 8th place points-finish after starting near the back of the pack.”
The GP3 series heads to Belgium for Round 5 of the Championship during the August 25-27 weekend.
