PRESTIGE AND RUSTOMJEE GROUP (MUMBAI) COLLABORATE TO START VOCATIONAL EDUCATION CENTERS ACROSS SOUTH INDIA TO PROVIDE SKILLED AND EFFICIENT MANPOWER TO THE REAL ESTATE AND CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY

Convocation ceremony of the first batch of students to take place on 05 September 2017 in the presence of Mr. Tanveer Sait – Honorable Education Minister, Government of Karnataka, Muralidhar Halappa – Chairman – Karnataka Skill Development Corporation, Government of Karnataka, and dignitaries from CREDAI

Bengaluru: In February 2017, Prestige and Rustomjee Group (Mumbai) collaborated to introduce a revolutionary step in the domain of Vocational Education and Skill Development. Given that Vocational Education is the need of the hour for the real estate and construction industry, Prestige and Rustomjee Group formed a partnership to start Vocational Education Centers across South India. They kick-started this initiative by introducing their first center in Bangalore with training programs under Construction, Automobile, Hospitality, Facility Service Management and Health Care. Furthermore, CREDAI has collaborated with the Institute to ensure that the industry standards and benchmarks are maintained.

Today, they are proud to announce the Convocation Ceremony of the debut batch of students under the Center of Excellence in Construction (with quality mark of both Prestige and Rustomjee groups). The students will be conferred their certificates in the presence of Mr. Tanveer Sait – Honorable Education Minister, Government of Karnataka, Mr. Muralidhar Halappa – Chairman – Karnataka Skill Development Corporation, Government of Karnataka Mr. Irfan Razack and several other stalwarts from the real estate industry as well as dignitaries from CREDAI.

The National Skill Development Corporation’s (NSDC) report on Human Resource and Skill Requirement, published in 2013-14, projects that the workforce in the construction and real estate sector will touch approximately 76 million by 2022. Of these, 97 percent of workers between the age of 15 and 65 are likely to have no training before they start working, according to National Sample Survey Office’s findings. According to a survey by Housing.com in 2015, only 4% of India’s workforce is skilled as compared to 96% in South Korea, 80% in Japan, 74% in Germany, 68% in the UK and 45% in China. These are alarming numbers for a developing nation projected to be the next Superpower, and hence there is an urgent need to take measures to start addressing this situation immediately.

Commenting on this occasion, Mr. Irfan Razack – CMD, Prestige Group said, “Vocational Education is the next big revolution, as is being repetitively
communicated by our Hon. PM Narendra Modi through his Skill India Mission. While it is already a time-tested model prevalent in China, Germany, Australia, Switzerland and other countries around the world, this much-needed transformation is taking place in India only now. This project particularly, is of great interest to me, as it focuses on bridging the gap between skills required and human resources available – marking a new era of a more efficient and skilled workforce benchmarked against the best of industry norms and standards, which is crucial to match up to the growth of our country.”

“The need of the hour is to focus on India’s core asset, which is its youth. We are adding a million people to the working population every month. We need to ensure that they are employable and also get jobs. Three things that the youth need as tools of empowerment are education, livelihood and an environment for enterprise creation. While access to education today is a lot more than what it used to be, it still falls short of universalization. The challenge lies not only in adding quality physical infrastructure, but also simultaneously in ensuring that the quality of education being imparted is as good. Moreover, we need to focus on skill development in education. Given the sheer size of India’s youth, it is necessary to channelize the majority into industry-specific vocational training. This will also ensure that no industry is starved of trained resources. It is in keeping with this very thinking that we have launched this initiative. It is indeed a proud moment for us to have the first set of students graduating from our Center. I congratulate each and every one of them, and wish them all the very best for their future!” he added.

Mr. Percy Chowdhry – Director, Rustomjee Group said, “The energy, enthusiasm and innovativeness of our youth can immensely contribute to the socio-economic development of our nation, and they should be placed at the forefront of building the economy of the country. It is the collective responsibility of the Government and the Private Sector to design and implement practical programmes and hence this initiative to train, generate decent employment and economically empower them to play a more meaningful role in the development and upliftment of their communities and the nation at large.

With India projected to become an economic superpower in the next couple of decades owing to its rich demographic dividend, there is an urgent requirement for quality education providers in India. With this in mind, Rustomjee and the Prestige Group have come together to offer the youth of the country quality education, with the ever changing industry requirements being the foundation for the courses on offer.”
