The Turnover of MSIL is about Rs.1700 crores and in the Current Financial Year it is expected to achieve Rs.2000 crores.                                                                                                                                                                                                                    In the recent years, there is huge gap between demand and supply of Natural  River Sand all over the Country which has given rise to incidence of assault on officers who are enforcing  the  allotment of Natural River Sand.  In view of this, during MSIL Golden Jubliee Function  the Hon`ble Chief Minister instructed MSIL to examine importing of Natural River Sand from other Countries where it is abundantly available by amending the Minor Mineral Act suitably.

Accordingly, Government of Karnataka has brought in amendments to the existing Minor Mineral Act  to enable interested parties to import Natural River Sand and sell in the State of Karnataka.  MSIL initiated action for importing Natural River Sand by introducing Branded “MSIL Sand” (Natural River Sand) for the first time in the Country in  Bags to sell In the State of Karnataka.  To achieve this feat MSIL floated a Global Tender to identify the suppliers and accordingly suppliers have been identified.

On 22nd January 2018 MSIL is introducing Natural River Sand imported from Malaysia for sale in the State.  The Natural River Sand being imported is tested in 3 stages so as to ensure there is no compromise on the quality  of the sand.  In the first stage before the sand is loaded to the ship at the

Port test is conducted, at the time of packing sand another test is conducted followed by another test before selling to the customers.  These

tests are conducted by the Laboratories recognised by Central and State Government and certificates are issued which would ensure the quality of the sand being imported and made available to the market.

In the State of Karnataka, it is estimated that about 300 lakhs MT of sand is required, out of which 40 lakhs MT is taken from the River basin and another 200 lakhs MT of sand being fulfilled by “M” sand manufacturers leaving a  deficit of 60 lakhs MT in  the State. In order to meet this deficit  MSIL has initiated action for importing natural river sand to help the General Public and Construction Industries to tide over the situation.

The State of Karnataka has taken a determined  and decisive decision by amending the Minor Mineral  Act to enable interested parties  to import natural river sand without any difficulty.  Already, many private organisations have submitted their application to  the  Mines Department.,

In  this direction MSIL  also initiated action for importing high quality natural river sand to sell competitively in the market like any other Private Organisation.

In the first stage MSIL is planning to make available natural river sand for Sale at Channasandra (Bangalore District), Bidadi (Ramnagara District), Doddaballapura (Bangalore Rural District), Kyathasandra (Tumkur District), Mandya, Mysore and Hubli.  On 22nd January 2018 the sale of Natural

River Sand in bags will be made available for sale at Bidadi followed by sale in all other above mentioned Centres in due course of time.

In the above named Centres, MSIL opened sales counters and sale will be on MRP only.  In Bangalore Urban the rate fixed per Ton is Rs.4,000/- (50 kg bag MRP Rs.200/-) which includes fee to the Mines  Department, Import Duty, GST, etc., While selling natural river sand in Bags at MRP rates a separate permit will be issued to each and every Truck along with GST Bill.  However, the MRP would differ from one Centre to another due to variation in   Railway Racks Transportation Cost.

For the first time in the Country, MSIL is introducing natural river sand in Bags of 50 kgs by assuring highest quality, at affordable price and accurate weight for sale and this is the “Unique selling proposition” of MSIL`s Branded Natural River Sand  which will go  a long way to reduce the gap between demand and supply and enable customers to buy quality River Sand at affordable rate and  at the assurance of  MSIL on every bit of Imported  Natural River Sand.
