AMAN DAHIYA AND SANJANA SIRIMALLA CROWNED CHAMPIONS AT THE FIRST IIFL WEALTH U-14 ATF TOURNAMENT

In two matches befitting a finals match-up, Sanjana Sirimalla and Aman Dahiya were crowned the Girls and Boys champions respectively at the first IIFL Wealth U-14 ATF Tournament.

In the girls finals, top seed S. Sirimalla set up her final encounter with qualifier Renne Singla, post a tough semifinals against the third seed V Adkar, who she eventually defeated, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. Singla meanwhile reached the finals post a 7-6, 6-2 against Shruti in an intense semi-final.

Prior to the finals, Srimalla and Singla who had met once in the past with Singla having won that affair and Sirimalla vowing revenge for that loss, walking onto Court #1 at the RK Khanna Tennis stadium.

The Girls U-14 Finals that lasted a little over 2 Hours (2 Hours, 4 Minutes), saw the best of the two girls, leaving all their fight on court post a week of challenging matches in the road to the finals. The match that lasted three sets, eventually went in S Sirimilla’s favour, 2-6,6-2,6-2.

Renne who had entered the main draw as a qualifier ranked 472 on the Asian Circuit, took home the first set in the finals 6-2, not allowing a Sanjana a single Game Point till 3-0 in the first set. Wining her first game point at 3-1, Sanjana added another game point 4-2 before losing the first set 6-2. Finding her footing in the second set, Sanjana used the confidence and knowledge she gained of her opponent in the first set, to take the remaining two sets, 6-2, 6-2 and win the championship. Commenting on her change of fortunes between the first set and the following two, Sanjana says the post her win in the first set, she decided to focus on playing the game and not focus on the eventual result which is what she says contributed to her confidence and eventual win. Sanjana who will spend Sunday watching idol, Roger Federer attempt his 20th Grand-slam final, will then head to Bangalore early March, to play another ATF tournament. This win gives Sanjana 400 ATF points and Renne Singla 260 points as Champion and Runner-Up respectively.

In the boys finals, it was qualifier Aman Dahiya, who had sent top seed Vishesh Patel home in the quarterfinals, that emerged champion defeating opponent and second seed Chirag Duhan, 1-6, 7-6 (3),7-6 (1). Aman who came into the finals with the confidence of having won the Doubles Championship on Friday won the first game point of the finals 1-0 before losing the set in less than 20 minutes with Chirag dominating the court to close the first set at 6-1. Aman fought back hard, showing his grittiness through the next 2Hours 40 Minutes of the match eventually taking the next two sets to tie breakers and winning both, 7-6(3), 7-6(1) after being down 4-5 in the second set and 2-4 in the final, third set. Aman from Sonepat, Haryana attacked his finals with the confidence that he had won his Double Championships – sharing post his win that even when he was a set down, he was still confident that he would win the title given how hard he had worked and that he knew that his level of fitness and his grittiness would see him through even the toughest of finals.

Aman has collected a total of 750 ATF points, with his titles in his Singles and Doubles Titles at the first IIFL Wealth U-14 ATF Tournament
