Bengaluru: There will be a heavy downpour across the state today, with heavy rains in 10 districts by morning, the Meteorological Department said.

Morning rain alert for 10 districts
According to the Nowcast report issued around 7 am on Tuesday, thunderstorms and windy weather have been predicted in Bagalkot, Hassan, Bengaluru urban-rural, Belgaum, Chikkaballapur, Dharwad, Gadag, Kolar, Koppal and Vijayanagar till 10 am.
Severe cyclones are expected in some parts of coastal, central and north Karnataka and Malnad today, with low activity expected across South Karnataka. Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Belgaum, Dharwad, Haveri, Shivamogga, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru and Kodagu are expected to be rain hotspots, the Meteorological Department said. Andhra Pradesh and adjoining districts of Telangana and Maharashtra will be affected by cyclone activity.
Red alert for six districts
Heavy rainfall is likely in various parts of Bengaluru state on Tuesday. In addition, a ‘red alert’ has been declared for six districts and an ‘orange alert’ for four districts. There is a possibility of very heavy rainfall with thundershowers in Belgaum, Uttara Kannada, Shivamogga, Udupi, Chikkamagaluru and Dakshina Kannada districts, and a red alert has been declared.

The department has predicted that there is a possibility of heavy rainfall with thundershowers in Dharwad, Haveri, Hassan and Kodagu districts. There is a possibility of heavy rainfall with strong winds in Bengaluru for the next three days, a ‘yellow alert’ has been issued from May 20 to 22. The rains are likely to continue for another week, and the wind speed is likely to decrease slightly from May 23, the department said.
