Controversy Erupts as CBFC Edits Akshay Kumar’s Lord Shiva Portrayal in “OMG 2” to Depict Him as a Messenger of God, Erasing All References to Ujjain?
In “OMG 2,” the CBFC alters Akshay Kumar’s portrayal of Lord Shiva to that of a Messenger of God and deletes any mention of Ujjain.
The movie Oh My God! 2 has received 27 cuts and a U/A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). According to the CBFC’s guidelines, the producers made odifications, which included changing Akshay Kumar’s portrayal of Lord Shiva to that of a divine messenger.
OMG’s response: Oh My God! The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) gave the movie 2 a U/A certificate, ordered 27 edits, and forwarded it to the revision committee.
According to the CBFC’s directions, the creators have now changed the beginning, and it will now be played with a voiceover. Originally playing Lord Shiva in the film, Akshay Kumar will now play the Messenger of God.
According to the Bollywood Hungama report, the images of frontal nudity were erased and replaced with appropriate images of Naga Sadhus.
It was also changed the scene where Akshay Kumar’s character is supposedly also seen taking a bath and doing meditation. He also appears in situations where he is drunk, and those scenes have also been modified appropriately.
The allegation went on to say that an audio cut was made in a conversation of a temple proclamation that said, “Mahilayein nahin dekh sakti,” in reference to women. Instead, the phrase “O lal shirt waale bhaiya, baba ka dhyan karte rahe” was used. The institution was given the new name “Savoday.” Then, the references to alcohol were removed from the dialogue in “Wahan madira chade hai.” A discourse about the High Court was also deleted because it was judged vulgar and defamatory, in addition to this. There were no images in this speech.
The Mood X condom’s advertisement on a billboard was later removed. The word “rat” was removed from the bottle’s label, which contained rat poison. Additionally, allusions to the Shivling, the Shri Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishads, the Atharvaveda, Draupadi, Pandav, Krishna, the Gopiyan, and Raasleela were deleted from a crucial dialogue.
Originally based in Ujjain, the movie is now placed in a made-up location. The CBFC further ordered the producers to take down any images or verbal allusions to Mahant or other notable figures in authority. Finally, the producers were required to provide documentation supporting the statistics and facts about sexual activities that were presented in the video.
13 minutes of the movie have been filtered by the CBFC. Now, the movie has been running for two hours and 36 minutes. In addition to Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam also play prominent parts. The movie is expected to premiere on August 11, 2023.
