Bengaluru: Opposition to Population-Based Delimitation: Demand for Fair Representation and Political Reservation for Backward Classes Srinivas goud. Ex Minister Telangana.
They strongly oppose the proposed delimitation exercise based solely on population as it disproportionately affects South Indian states that have successfully controlled population growth through progressive policies. This move is not only unjust but also undermines the core principles of federalism and equal representation. If implemented this proposal will reduce the political influence of states that have contributed significantly to India’s development while favoring those with high population growth. Demand to Increase Parliamentary Seats Without Penalizing Progressive States
Instead of reducing seats for South Indian states, we demand that the total number of Lok Sabha seats be increased proportionally to ensure fair representation for all regions India’s population has grown significantly since the last major delimitation exercise, and it is logical to expand the number of seats from the current 543 to at least 888. This approach ensures that representation is distributed equitably without punishing states that have successfully managed their population.
If the government follows a population-based seat distribution, states like Tamil Nadu Kerala, Kamataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana will lose seats, despille their strong contributions to GDP social welfare and economic development. Instead of discouraging responsible governance, the government should focus on ensuing that all regions are fairly represented in Parliament
Political Reservation for Backward Classes
India has a population of nearly 80 crore (800 million people belonging to backward classes (OBCs), yet their representation in politics remains significantly low. We demand proportional political reservation for backward classes to ensure their voices are heard in decision-making. The lack of representation for backward communities in Parliament, state assemblies, and policy-making bodies continues to hinder their social and economic progress.
If social justice is a priority political representation for the backward classes must be ensured through reserved constituencies and fair ticket distribution by all political parties it is unacceptable that such a large section of society remains politically marginalized despite their contributions to the nation’s progress
Call for a Just and Inclusive Approach
We urge the central government to
1. Reject the population-based delimitation formula, which unfairly reduces South Indian states’ political influence.
2 Increase Lok Sabha seats from 543 to 888 to accommodate India’s growing population while maintaining fairness.
3 Implement political reservation for backward classes to ensure inclusive governance
We call upon all political leaders, civil society organizations, and citizens to stand together against this unjust delimitation process and demand a more balanced. equitable, and inclusive political representation system.
